Digitization

Digitized Chilton County Newspapers

There are at least 3 main online sources for digitized Chilton County Newspapers.
First is our collection that the Historical Society has been working on since 2022.
  • Includes all known early newspapers
  • Chilton County News through 1963
  • Union-Banner through 1935
The second is the University of Montevallo's Milner Archives of the Union-Banner
  • Includes issues when W. M. "Mack" Wyatt was involved
  • Specifically, 1913 - 1938
Finally, most issues of the Union-Banner through 1963 are online at newspapers.com
  • Requires a paid membership
  • Banner issues
  • Union-Banner issues
  • (significantly, NOT Union issues or the issues when they combined)

The following issues have been digitized by the Historical Society

Project Status - HISTORICAL NEWSPAPERS DIGITIZATION

Our Historical Newspapers Digitization Project has reached its main goal. We have digitized all the microfilm that the Historical Society has immediate access to and all the newspaper books to 1963 that weren't microfilmed years ago. There's still a bit to be done for the final phase.

The remaining goals for the project are being researched. They are (1) find access to and digitize the 1936 through 1963 Union-Banner issues and (2) review the microfilm digitization results for poor original quality and investigate possible original books that might result in a better digitization result.
